Fishing Rules
CASF OFFSHORE FISHING TOURNAMENT RULES
- All boats must have at least one CASF member on board.
- All fish must be hooked and caught on rod and reel.
- All lines limited to 80 lb. test maximum.
- This is a boat tournament. The boat with the most points after the day of fishing will be the winner.
- Teasers and “bird” lures are permitted as are kites.
- Wire lines are permitted. Electric reels are permitted only as kite reels. Stinger hooks are permitted.
- Artificial, dead and live baits are permitted. Live-bait chumming is permitted as is dead bait chumming and cut bait.
- All anglers must possess a valid Florida Saltwater Fishing License or be legally exempted from license requirements. Please see myfwc.com for information on license exemptions.
- Tournament hours are as follows: Lines in at 6:30 am. and lines out at 2:00 pm. Boats may start from any location within the tournament boundaries. All boats with fish to be weighed must be within sight of the Sands Harbor dock by 3:00 pm as confirmed checked in by a tournament committee member. Fish can be caught after 2:00 pm. provided they are solidly hooked by that time and are either brought back to the dock by 3:00 pm. or released. A fish is considered “solidly hooked” when the angler has set the hook and feels tension resulting from the run of the fish. “Hit”, “passes”, or live bait “excitement” are not considered hook-ups.
- Tournament boundaries: North to Jupiter Inlet, South to Fowey Light, East to 30 miles from the Florida coast. Boats may depart from and return to any inlet within these boundaries but must be in sight of the Sands Harbor dock by 3:00 pm. All tournament boats must be in compliance with Florida, U.S. and international laws at all times. The tournament committee reserves the right to inspect GPS systems to ensure compliance with tournament boundaries.
- Tournament boats may return to their home dock and transport their catch to the weigh-in by car. Should they elect to do so, they must present to the weighmaster a digital photo of their fish on the boat with at least one angler at the time of weigh-in. Anglers coming to the weigh-in by car must check in with the weighmaster before 3:00 pm.
- Fish Limit: A maximum of 5 fish may be weighed in per boat. Each boat may weigh a total of 3 fish per species. Each fish must weigh a minimum of 5 pounds. All boats must adhere to state of Florida recreational bag limits as they pertain to all eligible species.
- Point System: One point per pound will be awarded to any boat catching the following species (5 pound minimum):
- Wahoo
- Dolphin
- Kingfish
- Tuna (Blackfin and Yellowfin)
- Cobia
Any species not listed above will not count in the scoring of the tournament. Mutilated fish will not count in the scoring.
- The committee chairman shall appoint a weighmaster who will oversee all activities at the weigh-in docks.
- In case of a tie involving two or more tournament boats after the day of fishing, the earliest weigh-in time wins.
- All protests must be submitted in writing by 3:45 pm. the day of the tournament and must be accompanied by $100 in cash. All controversies will be addressed and decided by the tournament committee. Majority rules and all decisions of the committee are final. If a protest is upheld, then the $100 will be returned; if not, the protest fee is forfeited. In the case of a “hung” committee vote, the appointed weighmaster will cast the deciding vote. The tournament committee reserves the right to polygraph any of the winning boat’s crew at their discretion before any prize monies are paid out.
- All rules interpretations are at the discretion of the Tournament Committee. In the event of a “hung” decision, the final decision shall be at the discretion of the Tournament Committee Chairman.
